2K Games has appointed Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Transition Follows Mixed Reception
Brinkman assumes the leadership position at the development studio following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing unveiling last fall.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer notified employees about this strategic move through an official communication, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had indicated the need for a more defined direction.
The president expressed that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to satisfy community desires.
Trend of Strategic Recruitment
The news follows a similar step taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the BioShock development group.
Below is the complete message from Ismailer's memo:
Team—
I know you all just finished your town hall - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and creative designers we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re excited for that relationship to persist.”
Through your commitment and versatility, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It affirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but made clear we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the need for a more distinct vision.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the criticism to consideration and reimagined the title with a revitalized vision - one that’s ready to fulfill its promise to our players.
The trust in this project grows every day. To further the incredible development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to introduce the new hire as the incoming Director of 31st Union. After a period of conversations, he starts with us on next week.
Ben’s leadership and experience in the PVP shooter space is considerable, having spent the recent years developing and overseeing some of the most well-known series in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.
Let’s together in receiving Ben soon. We are all excited to keep witnessing the development of the game in the weeks to come.
The President
