Wimbledon Embraces Video Review System in 2025.

The Championships tennis court with video review system

Wimbledon will follow the US and Aussie Opens in utilizing video review technology.

Video review technology are set to arrive at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.

Athletes are granted the option to contest certain rulings from the official, mirroring the practice currently in use at both the US Open and the Australian Open.

This technology will be accessible on the main stadium and the number one court for the duration of the Championships and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles contests.

This step arrives only a season following the AELTC rolled out electronic line calling, which brought an end to the 147-year role of line judges.

What Can Be Reviewed?

Competitors cannot to dispute the call of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to ask for the official to review specific decisions, including:

  • If a ball has double-bounced.
  • Whether a ball made contact with an opponent's racquet or person on the way past.
  • Potential interference at the conclusion of a point.

Notably, there is no limit on the amount of reviews a player can initiate.

Practical Application

An illustrative case took place in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against his opponent.

The British player conceded it was a tough call for the umpire, but thought his rival had "played the rules effectively."

Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a replay and ruled Draper was responsible for interference, granting the rally to Medvedev.

Wider Implementation

This technology are not exclusive to major tournaments. The system was adopted at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the ATP circuit will have video reviews in place at all of its events.

Further Updates

Another change at The Championships this year will be the addition of graphical cues on displays to support the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.

This solves situations where fans have occasionally been unsure whether a ball was in or out.

Finally, with exactly a century of days remaining until the beginning of the Championships, organizers have also announced an increase in daily attendance at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
